The Chicago Cubs designated right-hander Adbert Alzolay for assignment, the club announced Tuesday.
Alzolay was projected to earn $2.3 million in 2025, according to MLB Trade Rumors. The 29-year-old has an additional year of arbitration eligibility before he hits free agency at the end of the 2025 season.
Alzolay is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August.
He spent the first six seasons of his career with the Cubs. Alzolay's best season came in 2023 when he registered a 2.67 ERA with 22 saves and 67 strikeouts in 64 innings.
The Cubs also designated outfielder Brennen Davis for assignment and added outfielder Owen Caissie and infielder Ben Cowles to the 40-man roster.
