Lakers rookie Olivari shares advice he gave to Warriors' Curry
Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Quincy Olivari offered some words of encouragement to Stephen Curry amid the Golden State Warriors' recent slump.
Olivari shared the advice he gave Curry while speaking to reporters Sunday, which included a light-hearted jab at the Warriors star's dance moves.
"I reached out to him last week before they played Houston, and I was just like, 'They talking about blah, blah, blah, the Warriors, and, you know, y'all haven't won,'" Olivari told The Guardian's Claire de Lune.
"So I just sent him a text, I was like, 'Yo bro, I believe in you. Go be that dude that I know you can be. Just go out there, have fun. My dad always say I play best when I'm having fun, when I'm playing loose, so just go out there and be that kid that's having fun. Your family believes in you, I believe in you, and why not make this last month of 2024 special?'
Olivari continued: "And he sent a text, he was like, ‘I appreciate it.' I said, 'So when you go out there tomorrow' - because I thought he was playing against the Rockets, but it ended up being the Timberwolves - I said, 'When you got out there, do that little shimmy you do, 'cause you don't got no rhythm, but at least try your best to do it.' And he laughed at it and said, 'I'mma try my best.'
But it's just light-hearted texts just about having fun and reminding me that this is just basketball. Go out there, have fun, shoot the threes, and give them a show."
Olivari joined the Lakers on a two-way contract after going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft. He grew up idolizing Curry and recently signed an endorsement deal with Curry Brand.
The 23-year-old made his NBA debut Sunday night against the Portland Trail Blazers, finishing with three points.
