Report: Raiders request to interview Chiefs' Spagnuolo, Lions coordinators

The Las Vegas Raiders requested to interview Detroit Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn for their head coaching vacancy, a source told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Las Vegas also requested to speak with Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, a source told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Spagnuolo has been Andy Reid's defensive coordinator in Kansas City since 2019, winning three Super Bowls during his Chiefs tenure. He has head coaching experience, as he was the then-St. Louis Rams' head boss from 2009-11.

Johnson, 38, has been Detroit's offensive coordinator since 2022. The Lions are third in EPA/play on offense since he took the job, according to Ben Baldwin's database. The Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New England Patriots also asked to interview Johnson.

The 38-year-old Johnson has been a hot head coaching candidate over the last two seasons. He decided to return to Detroit last year after taking multiple interviews.

Dan Campbell hired Glenn as his defensive coordinator when he took the Lions' head coaching job in 2021. Glenn was previously the New Orleans Saints' defensive backs coach from 2016-2020.

Detroit's defense this season ranks seventh in points per game allowed and eighth in success rate under the 52-year-old Glenn despite multiple injuries to key players.

The Raiders fired Antonio Pierce after one full season as the head coach. Minority owner Tom Brady will reportedly assist in finding their next head boss.
