Dodgers DFA Ryan Brasier after signing Yates
The Los Angeles Dodgers designated reliever Ryan Brasier for assignment, they announced Thursday.
Brasier was cut to clear a 40-man roster spot for veteran reliever Kirby Yates, who joined the Dodgers on a one-year, $13-million contract. The team also made Yates' deal official Thursday.
L.A. now has 10 days to either trade, waive, or release Brasier. The team had been attempting to trade Brasier over the last few days but was unable to find any takers, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
Brasier became a key piece of manager Dave Roberts' bullpen after joining the Dodgers partway through the 2023 season. Over 68 appearances (four starts) with the team, the 37-year-old put up a sparkling 1.89 ERA, 2.83 FIP, and 0.83 WHIP along with 63 strikeouts and only 15 walks.
Despite his good work, Brasier found himself pushed out of the Dodgers' bullpen amid their busy offseason. The reigning champs have added Yates and left-hander Tanner Scott to their bullpen as well as starters Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki. Additionally, they have another five injured pitchers who are taking up 40-man roster spots during the offseason and can't be placed on the 60-day injured list until spring training opens.
Brasier is entering the final season of a two-year contract and will earn $4.5 million in 2025.
The native of Wichita Falls, Texas, owns a lifetime 3.85 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 281 strikeouts and 10 saves across 297 big-league appearances with the Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Angels.
