Doncic predicted he would reunite with Lakers' Finney-Smith
A prediction Luka Doncic made more than a year ago about reuniting with one of his former Dallas Mavericks teammates has come true after his trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Doncic and Dorian Finney-Smith played together for four-and-a-half seasons in Dallas before the latter was dealt to the Brooklyn Nets in February 2023. Finney-Smith was then traded to the Lakers earlier this season as part of the deal that sent D'Angelo Russell to Brooklyn.
After an October 2023 game between the Mavs and Nets, Doncic foretold that the two would play together again one day.
"That's my guy," Doncic said. "I miss him so much. And I know at some point, we're gonna play again, for sure. That's my guy."
The Lakers acquired Doncic from the Mavs late Saturday in a shocking three-team blockbuster trade that also includes the Utah Jazz.
Doncic is averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists through 22 games this season.
