Mavs fan raises over $31K for billboards protesting Doncic trade
Dallas Mavericks fans aren't hiding their frustration with the organization in the wake of Luka Doncic's departure.
One fan upset with the decision to trade Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for billboards taking aim at Mavs general manager Nico Harrison and the Adelson ownership group. They plan to display the billboards in the area surrounding American Airlines Center.
As of Thursday afternoon, the fundraiser has raised over $31,000 toward its target goal of $82,600.
"Trading away Luka Magic has left a deep void in the hearts of Dallas fans," organizer Jacob Posner wrote. "By banding together for this billboard campaign, we're sending a strong, undeniable message to the Mavs' front office: We refuse to be overlooked, and we deserve better decisions."
Doncic was dealt to the Lakers as part of a three-team trade that sent Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick to the Mavs.
Harrison said Sunday that by trading the 25-year-old Doncic, the Mavs "got ahead of what was going to be a tumultuous summer" filled with contract negotiations.
