Canada's Theodore out for tournament after injury vs. Sweden
Team Canada and Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore will miss the remainder of the 4 Nations Face-Off after sustaining an apparent wrist injury in the tournament opener against Sweden on Wednesday.
The Golden Knights said Thursday that Theodore is expected to be week-to-week. Vegas doesn't play again until Feb. 22 against the Vancouver Canucks.
"Heartbreaking for the kid," head coach Jon Cooper said, per Sportsnet's Luke Fox.
Theodore was hurt while bracing for a hit from Swedish forward Adrian Kempe along the boards early in the second period. He didn't return to the contest.
The 29-year-old saw almost seven minutes of ice time before getting hurt. Canada held a 2-0 lead when he exited the game.
Philadelphia Flyers blue-liner Travis Sanheim was scratched as Canada's extra defenseman for Wednesday's contest.
The squad won't be able to add another rearguard unless there are fewer than 18 healthy skaters on the roster, according to TSN's Chris Johnston. Canada entered the 4 Nations Face-Off with 20 skaters.
Theodore's Golden Knights teammate Alex Pietrangelo pulled out of the tournament after Canada selected him in order to tend to an injury of his own.
