Report: Saints hiring Nussmeier as OC
The New Orleans Saints are hiring Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier as their new offensive coordinator, Ian Rapoport reports, citing NFL Network insiders.
Nussmeier follows Kellen Moore to New Orleans, where the latter recently became the Saints' new head coach. The pair worked for the Eagles during their Super Bowl LIX run and previously had overlapping stints with the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers.
Moore said during his introductory press conference last week that he'll call plays on offense to begin his head coaching tenure. Nussmeier is expected to be involved with position groups and game-planning throughout the week.
Nussmeier returns to New Orleans after the Saints drafted the former quarterback in the fourth round of the 1994 NFL Draft. He spent most of his tenure there as a backup.
Nussmeier will have a role in deciding who the Saints start under center next season, as the team hasn't committed to naming Derek Carr its QB1.
New Orleans' offense floundered after a hot start to the 2024 campaign, finishing 24th in points per game (19.9) and averaging 321.1 yards per contest.
