Knicks' Brunson out at least 2 weeks with ankle sprain
New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson will be out for at least two weeks due to a right ankle sprain, the team announced Friday.
Brunson suffered the injury during Thursday's overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. He logged just over 41 minutes before getting hurt, putting up 39 points, four rebounds, and 10 assists.
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said the team is still unsure of the severity of Brunson's injury and added that it's unclear if he'll return before the regular season ends, according to ESPN's Chris Herring.
"He's as tough-minded as they come," Thibodeau said. "Whatever he has to do to get back on the court, he'll be working at it around the clock, I know that."
The 28-year-old has blossomed into stardom since joining the Knicks in 2022. He's averaging 26.3 points, three rebounds, 7.4 assists, and a steal across 61 games this campaign.
Brunson was named to his second consecutive All-Star team earlier this season. He's posting the seventh-most points per game and eighth-most assists in the NBA.
Brunson had previously missed just one game this season.
"You don't replace a guy like him individually," Thibodeau said. "We're going to have to do it collectively."
The 40-22 Knicks will look to snap a two-game losing skid Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers.
