Rockets owner discussed Luka trade with President Trump, Italian PM
Nearly three months have passed since Luka Doncic was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers, but people still have a lot to say about the move.
Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta revealed Wednesday at a celebration of the Houston Cougars' run to the NCAA men's basketball championship game that the topic even came up during a recent visit with U.S. President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Fertitta is the nominee for United States ambassador to Italy.
"I was in the White House, in the Oval Office, with the prime minister of Italy and the president last Thursday, and we talked about the Houston Cougars, I can promise you, for at least a minute and a half," Fertitta said, according to KHOU 11. "And then we talked about that dumbass Luka Doncic trade that Dallas did."
The Mavs have faced plenty of fan backlash since dealing Doncic to the Lakers in early February as part of a three-team trade that also sent Anthony Davis to Dallas.
Mavs general manager Nico Harrison recently admitted he underestimated how popular Doncic was with the team's fanbase before trading the five-time All-Star.
