LeBron James will no longer be walking the carpet at the 2025 Met Gala.
The Los Angeles Lakers star, who was selected as an honorary co-chair for the annual fashion fundraiser in New York City, announced Monday on X that he's unable to attend because of a knee injury. His wife, Savannah, will be in attendance, however.
"Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won't be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on!" James wrote. "Hate to miss an historical event! My beautiful powerful Queen will be there holding the castle down as she always has done!"
James reportedly suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee Wednesday in Game 5 of the Lakers' first-round playoff loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He remained in the game, finishing with 22 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
The theme for this year's Met Gala is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," which explores Black dandyism from the 18th century to today. The event is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. ET Monday.
