Report: Mavs signing Gafford to 3-year extension worth nearly $60M

Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford will sign a three-year extension with the club worth just under $60 million, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Gafford's previous three-year contract was set to expire after the 2025-26 season.

The 26-year-old scored a career-best 12.3 points per game last season while starting in 31 of his 57 appearances. He also contributed 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per contest, ranking second on the team in the latter behind Anthony Davis, who averaged 2.2 in nine games for Dallas.

The reported agreement secures another pivotal long-term piece for the Mavericks. Only six players are under contract beyond next season, not including young bigs Dereck Lively II and Olivier-Maxence Prosper, who have team options in 2026-27.

Dallas, which is all but certain to add former Duke phenom Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick in Wednesday's draft, could have three other extension decisions to make this summer on Kyrie Irving, P.J. Washington, and Dwight Powell. Irving, who will likely miss a significant portion of next season recovering from a torn ACL suffered in March, holds a $43-million player option for 2025-26 that he must decide on by Tuesday.
