Smalley closed with a two-under 68 on Sunday to finish in a tie for third place at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Analysis:
Smalley showed no signs of a hangover after his strong T2 finish at the PGA Championship a couple weeks ago. He again put himself right in contention for his first PGA Tour win. Smalley got off to a slow start with no birdies in his first 10 holes, but closed with circles on 11, 12 and 18 to secure a T3 finish. It was just a shot shy of joining the playoff with Russell Henley and Eric Cole. Smalley gained strokes across the board this week while ranking second in GIR's and third in scrambling. This is now his seventh straight finish of T21 or better, with four of those being top-7 finishes. Smalley will look to keep things rolling next week at the Memorial Tournament.
