Schlager signed a two year deal with Nottingham Forest after departing RB Leipzig, the club announced.
Analysis:Schlager spent the past four seasons at Leipzig, serving as vice captain last season, and started all four of Austria's matches at this summer's World Cup to reach 55 caps for his country. The midfielder began his career at Red Bull Salzburg, helping the club reach the Europa League semifinal in 2017-18, before a move to Germany that saw him make close to 200 appearances across seven seasons, including 15 in the Champions League. He reunites with manager Oliver Glasner, having previously worked under him during a two year spell at Wolfsburg that included Champions League qualification. Schlager is expected to bring energy, pressing intensity and midfield leadership to Nottingham Forest as the club targets a return to European competition.
