In the first half of a Ukrainian Premier League match Sunday, Jaba Kankava, a midfielder for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, may have saved the life of his Dynamo Kiev opponent, Oleh Gusev.
Approaching halftime, Gusev was tracking a cross directed to the far post and was blindsided by the knee of Dnipro's keeper. Gusev immediately lost consciousness and began choking after his tongue reportedly obstructed his airway.
Kankava swiftly flipped his opponent over and reached into his mouth to re-open the airway before Kiev's medical personnel reached the fallen winger.
Here's video of the traumatic, yet equally heroic incident, where you can see Gusev snap back into consciousness after being assisted by his Dnipro counterpart.
