AJ McCarron led Alabama to back-to-back national titles and finished his college career as a three-time champion. The Bengals made it clear they believe McCarron has what it takes to achieve a similar level of success in the pros, selecting him with the 164th pick of the draft.
McCarron joins a Bengals depth chart that already includes Andy Dalton, Jason Campbell, and Josh Johnson at quarterback.
A three-year starter for the Crimson Tide, McCarron didn't have to light the college football world on fire to win games. Instead, he protected the football and put his talented teammates in position to make plays. His physical skill set won't wow anyone, but he's a steady, intelligent player and a good leader.
McCarron's best season at Alabama was his final one. He started 13 games and passed for over 3,000 yards, 28 touchdowns and just seven interceptions, passing John Parker Wilson to become Alabama's all-time leading passer and earning a second-team All-SEC selection.
