Report: Kevin Durant to be named MVP

Following the most impressive season of his career, Kevin Durant will reportedly be named as the 2013-14 NBA MVP.

According to ESPN, the news will be made official at a news conference Monday or Tuesday, and a pregame ceremony will be held before Game 1 of the Oklahoma City Thunder's second-round series.

Had the Thunder not eliminated the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 7 of their first-round series, the official news conference would likely have been delayed until a later date to avoid a repeat of 2007, when an uncomfortable Dirk Nowitzki was forced to accept the MVP award right after the Dallas Mavericks were bounced in the first round by the Golden State Warriors.

But "Mr. Unreliable" posted 33 points on 12-of-18 shooting in Game 7, meaning such a situation was avoided.

Durant, who posted 25 points or more in 41 consecutive contests, finished the regular season with a career-high average of 32.0 points to compliment 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. He also posted an above-human and career-high Player Efficiency Rating of 29.8 and a True Shooting Percentage of 63.5.
