Eto'o labels Mourinho a 'fool' for questioning his age; vows to play for years to come
Samuel Eto'o is doing his best to remind everyone that he isn't old.
The striker, 33, rehashed the controversy over his age by calling Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho a "fool" in a recent interview, adding that he will continue playing for years to come.
Mourinho came under fire in February when footage leaked by a French television station caught him making a suggestion that the striker may be lying about his age - Eto'o maintained that he was 32 at the time.
"The problem with Chelsea is we lack a striker," Mourinho said in the clip, which showed him in conversation with a Swiss journalist during a commercial event in Switzerland last month.
"I have one (Eto'o), but he's 32. Maybe 35. Who knows?"
The Cameroonian, who will represent his country at next month's World Cup in Brazil, responded by mocking his manager with an 'old man' goal celebration after scoring his first goal since the comments were brought to light.
Now, speaking with africanfootball.com, Eto'o decided to revisit the issue.
FOX Soccer has the details:
"Thanks for informing me that it will be my last World Cup. Today, I am 33 years old. And it is not because a fool called me an old man that you must believe it. And you may have noticed that the old man was better than the youngsters.
"Some believe I am going to retire in the United States or in the Middle East, but I have regained the joy of the Champions League and I am going to carry on playing in the Champions League. Where? I am not going to tell you. But I am going to carry on playing because physically and mentally I feel great.
"So I am going to go to this World Cup and to the next one when I will be 37. Some did it at 42, so I can still play in two more World Cups."
With his one-year deal at Chelsea set to expire this summer, it is unlikely that Eto'o returns to Stamford Bridge next season.
