Overview
Julius Honka was the sixth highest scoring player on the Swift Current Broncos this season and was the only rookie to appear on that list with 56 total points. He was also the only defenseman to appear in top-six scoring on the team.
Honka has patience which is rare for defensemen of his age. He takes his time, looks for the pass and surveys the ice surface before settling on an option.
After being one of the top three scoring defensemen in the WHL before the World Junior Championship, Honka was selected by Team Finland to play in the tournament and also played on Team Orr in the CHL Top Prospects Game.
A good fit for Honka would be with the Detroit Red Wings where they are rebuilding their defense, a puck-moving defenseman could be a great addition.
Pro Comparison
Duncan Keith, Brent Burns.
Scouts are saying
Central Scouting's Peter Sullivan
Let’s just say that when you go to a game and you see his name in the lineup, you’re excited to watch the game because he’s got about four or five different gears. You think he’s just skating normally and he puts it in another gear, then another gear. Excellent vision and on-ice awareness. He reads the play so well sometimes he’s two or three steps ahead of his own teammates.
