Broad Jump
Broad jump measures the distance a player can jump and stick the landing from a standing position. While this act is rarely executed on the football field during live play, measuring it provides a good look at a player's lower-body strength, explosiveness and balance.
Top Performers
Player | Position | Year | Distance |
---|---|---|---|
Jamie Collins | LB | 2013 | 11'7" |
Justin Hunter | WR | 2013 | 11'4" |
Jerome Simpson | WR | 2008 | 11'4" |
Notable Performances
Collins sets record
New England Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins gave his draft stock a boost when he registered a record jump of 11 feet, 7 inches in 2013. Incredibly, Collins' jump nearly exceeded the distance measured by combine officials.
The Patriots made Collins their pick in the second round of the draft.
Jones explodes
Julio Jones jumped 11 feet, 3 inches in 2011 and proved he deserved consideration as an elite wide receiver prospect alongside A.J. Green. The Atlanta Falcons took note and traded two first-round picks and more to move up and draft Jones sixth overall.
2015 Prospect Prediction
DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville
Parker could blow apart the notion that Alabama's Amari Cooper is the consensus top wide receiver with a dominant combine performance. Parker is an athletic freak who has previously jumped 10 feet, 10 inches. If he can add four or five inches in combine training, he will rank among the top wide receivers ever in the event.
