Gary Barnett will have a completely new role when he steps onto the Colorado campus this year.

The school announced Friday that the former Buffaloes head coach has joined the broadcast team for Colorado football. Barnett will be part of the team on a "limited basis" this season, but will become the full-time analyst in 2016.

Barnett served as Colorado's assistant coach from 1984-1991, helping the team win one national title and three Big East titles. He later returned as a head coach from 1999-2005, winning a Big 12 championship title.

"I think it’s great timing for me and hopefully for the university," said Barnett. "Going through the new facilities (at CU) just really made me want to be a part of this. I've enjoyed traveling around the country for the last 10 years, but I gave this a lot of thought and I am looking forward to it. I also appreciate Larry Zimmer) being in favor of it, having the support of the broadcasting icon that he is. I think we’ll have a lot of fun."
