Deal or No Deal: Trade David Perron Before it's Too Late

No team in the NHL has a better record over its most recent 10-game stretch than Anaheim. The Ducks have rifled off a 9-0-1 stretch in that time and are an NHL-best 15-1-2 since the All-Star break, storming back from a horrendous start to sit fourth in the Western Conference as of Tuesday.
A big reason for the surge has been secondary scoring, with most of it coming from unexpected sources. With many of those players still available on season-long waiver wires, who are reliable pickups for the stretch run of the fantasy season?

C Rickard Rakell
Rakell is tied with C Ryan Getzlaf for second in team goal scoring over the past 30 days. His six goals in that time are just one back of leader Corey Perry. Four of his goals have been of the game-winning variety, while he's chipped in with four assists for a total of 10 points in 15 games. He's also seventh on the team with 28 hits in that time.
Rakell centers the second line at 5v5 with Perry and W Jamie McGinn. He plays the wing on the second power-play unit with McGinn and C Ryan Kesler, and has four power-play points in the last 15 games.
For the season, his 26 5v5 points are second among Ducks skaters. His 53.97% Corsi For Percentage at full strength is seventh on the team. While his 11.5% shooting percentage for the season may decline slightly, he's proving worthy of his second-line role with strong two-way play. He's a solid multi-category contributor worthy of a pickup in any 12-team league.
VERDICT: DEAL

LW/RW David Perron
A change of scenery following a trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier this season has sparked a remarkable turnaround for Perron:
GP | G | PTS | SOG | SH% | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
PIT | 43 | 4 | 16 | 96 | 4.2 |
ANA | 22 | 8 | 19 | 45 | 17.8 |
Sure, Perron is playing on the left side of a great center like Getzlaf at both 5v5 and on the top power-play unit. It's probably still a downgrade from the same position with C Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin while with the Pens.
Chemistry could be a factor, while coaching might also contribute. From a fantasy perspective, that 17.8% - over four times as successful as he was in Pittsburgh - is the probable cause.
Owners should be trying to trade Perron, while others should be picking him up off waivers with that sole intention.
VERDICT: NO DEAL

LW/RW Jamie McGinn
McGinn has replaced W Mike Santorelli on the left side of the Ducks' second with Rakell and Perry at 5v5. He joins Kesler and Rakell on the second power-play unit. McGinn has thrived there, scoring twice on just eight shots while adding an assist in his first four games with the Ducks.
Despite the incoming decline in offensive production, McGinn is an excellent pickup in any league which counts penalty minutes and/or hits. McGinn picked up 10 PIM in just his third game with Anaheim, doubling his season total in the category. He's dished out three hits in each of his past two games, moving him up to a total of 123 on the season.
