DFS: Dynamic Duos - Wednesday's Top Teammate Plays

Kevin Hoffman / USA TODAY Sports

With a short slate, here are Wednesday's top teammate combo plays:

W Mark Stone & C Kyle Turris, Senators (vs. Flames)

The Flames' goalie situation and shaky defense could translate into a big night for the Senators. Young guns Turris and Stone are consistently filling the score sheet on the top line and peppering goalies with a combined 4.63 shots per game.

Mike Hoffman is the third linesmate but will sit out against Calgary with a lower-body injury. Shane Price looks to get the spot on Turris' left wing and for a bargain bin price is worthy of a flyer, making this duo a trio.

Overall, Stone and Turris are the best bets to return on value but with a limited slate, DFS players could seriously consider rostering all three against a struggling opponent.

C Sidney Crosby & W Chris Kunitz/D Kris Letang, Penguins (at Capitals)

Crosby has underwhelmed to say the least. The Penguins' captain has been held scoreless in all but one game this season. That's not what you want to see from a player consistently at the top of the list in terms of DFS salary.

Still, Washington presents an opportunity for Crosby and his teammates to break out of their deep slump. Crosby has 51 points in 33 regular-season games against the Capitals.

There are several options to pair with Crosby. Phil Kessel is another Pens skater who has underperformed but doesn't present an opportunity for a great return on value. Pairing Crosby and Kessel brings a tremendous ceiling but ties up way too much salary in two slumping players.

Instead, pair Crosby with either Kunitz or even blue-liner Letang. Kunitz isn't as a skilled a scorer as Kessel but has had success playing on the top line for a long time. Letang is essentially a fourth forward on Pittsburgh's top line. He plays much of the game on shifts featuring Crosby on both even-strength and power play units.

Both Kunitz and Letang will have an opportunity to rack up assists off of Crosby and Kessel but at a cheaper price-point than the latter.

W Alexander Ovechkin & C Evgeny Kuznetsov, Capitals (vs. Penguins)

Here's the other half of the Pittsburgh-Washington rivalry. Ovechkin has 46 points - including 27 goals - in 39 games against Pittsburgh. Unlike Crosby, Ovi has earned his exorbitant DFS salary with five goals, four assists and more than five shots per game in six contests.

To balance out Ovechkin's price, pair him with young Russian center Kuznetsov. With eight assists in seven games, Kusnetsov has been the primary beneficiary of the Capital's plethora of scoring options. He has also added three goals of his own and is certain to surpass the 11-goal, 26-assist campaign form last season.

Though he loses the top center role on the power play to Nicklas Backstrom, Kuznetsov plays enough even strength hockey with Ovechkin to warrant must-play status, especially while his salary remains criminally low.
