Mets mirroring '86 World Series winners with win-loss pattern

On the eve of Halloween, the New York Mets are following an eerily similar pattern to the team that won the 1986 World Series.
The Mets dropped the first two games of the series earlier this week before their 9-3 win in Game 3 over the Kansas City Royals on Friday. The '86 Mets also dropped the first two games of their series with the Boston Red Sox before winning Game 3.
The similarities don't stop there:
Year | Game | Result |
---|---|---|
1986 | 1 | Lost by 1 |
1986 | 2 | Lost by 6 |
1986 | 3 | Won by 6 |
Year | Game | Result |
---|---|---|
2015 | 1 | Lost by 1 |
2015 | 2 | Lost by 6 |
2015 | 3 | Won by 6 |
This year's Mets will hope the parallels continue, as the '86 team won four of the final five games in the series for the organization's last championship.
