DFS: Counterattack - Sunday's Top Contrarian Plays

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Here are the top contrarian plays for Sunday, December 6:

G Craig Anderson, Senators (at Rangers)

Anderson is coming off a 29-save overtime win over the New York Islanders Saturday, and he'll likely start the second game of the back-to-back. That alone is enough reason for most owners to stay away.

Anderson's upside is always kept high due to the volume of shots the Senators allow. He'll enter as a pretty big underdog against G Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers but his career regular season stats against New York have been near-elite. He's 7-4-3 in 15 games played, with a save percentage of .939 and goals against average of 1.93. He has plenty of playoff experience against the Rangers as well.

The Senators offense is performing well enough of late that even if Anderson allows two or three goals, he'll have a chance to win.

D Keith Yandle, Rangers (vs. Senators)

Those unwilling to trust Anderson, need to lock-in Yandle. He has been improved of late, with one assist and 12 shots on goal in his past three games. He has five SOG in each of his past two games, but he still has just one goal on the season.

Yandle's average ice time of 18:57 is fifth on the Rangers for the season, but he has exceeded that mark in six consecutive games. He has played at least 22:00 in two of his past four games.

The Senators represent an ideal matchup for opposing defenders, and the majority of the public has given up on Yandle at this point.

W Tyler Toffoli, Kings (vs. Lightning)

Toffoli has an excellent matchup against a depleted Lightning second line Sunday. Tampa Bay is without two thirds of the line's regular members, opening up potential for the Kings' second line of C Jeff Carter and Ws Toffoli and Milan Lucic. The Kings will also face Lightning backup Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Toffoli has gone four games without scoring, and he has just one assist in that span. He does have 13 SOG, and his linemates have been producing. He'll start getting his fair share of the offense before long, and he should take advantage of his opponent's injury troubles.

C Jonathan Toews, Blackhawks (vs. Jets)

Though Toews has gone point-less in four consecutive games, his career splits against the Jets are worth rostering as a contrarian play. He has three goals and eight points in 11 career games against Winnipeg.

He's on pace for only 47 points this season. It would be his worst 82-game-season total since he had 54 points in 64 games played in his rookie year. Though Toews' offensive abilities are oft-overrated due to everything else he does for Chicago, it's fair to expect his numbers to begin trending upward.
