Toronto high schooler scores 103 points in game

The players on C.W. Jefferys' high school basketball team in Toronto will forever remember the name of Ahmed Ali, who lit them up in legendary fashion Wednesday afternoon.

Ali scored 103 points in the TDSB North Region senior game, leading the John Polanyi Collegiate Institute Jaguars to a 111-76 victory.

It was just the second time a Canadian high school prospect has scored over 100 points on his own, joining Denham Brown, who had 111 playing for West Hill Collegiate in 2002.

"The whole neighborhood has always talked about Brown and how special he was," Ali told the Toronto Sun's Jessica Patton on Thursday. "I was thinking in the locker room: 'I can break history right now. I can join Denham Brown.'"

Ali finished the first half with 48 points as his team led 56-28. That's when the idea of making history crossed the mind of his head coach, Jabulah Murray.

"We all got into the locker room and everyone was happy," Murray said. "We all came together and said: 'Let's see how much he can do.' We made a conscious effort as a team and said it was Ahmed's night."

Ali will receive a framed box score commemorating his performance during Polanyi's next home game on Jan. 6.

"I don't know what to say about (the community)," Ali said. "Man, I am out of words."
