Tuesday's Goaltender Value Rankings

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Here are theScore's goaltender value rankings for Tuesday, March 8:

Value Rankings
C | W | D | G

Top Options

Name Opponent Value
Antti Raanta (NYR) at BUF 8
Kari Lehtonen (DAL) at MTL 8
Cam Talbot (EDM) vs. SJ 8

Raanta had a poor game Sunday, allowing five goals in a loss to the Islanders, but should fare better against the low-scoring Sabres, who will be playing their third game in four nights. Raanta had won his previous three starts, allowing just five goals across them.

Assuming Lehtonen gets the nod, he has won his last two starts, allowing just three goals in them, and faces the slumping Canadiens, losers of four straight.

With four straight wins and just three goals allowed in them, Talbot is worthy of inclusion, even against a potent Sharks offense.

Best of the Rest

Name Opponent Value
Ben Biship (TB) vs. BOS 7
Pekka Rinne (NAS) at WPG 7
Thomas Greiss (NYI) vs. PIT 7
Marc-Andre Fleury (PIT) at NYI 7
Jimmy Howard (DET) at CLB 7
Joonas Korpisalo (CLB) vs. DET 7
Craig Anderson (OTT) at CAR 7
Martin Jones (SJ) at EDM 6
Robin Lehner (BUF) vs. NYR 6
Ondrej Pavelec (WPG) vs. NAS 6
Cam Ward (CAR) vs. OTT 6

Tampa Bay had won nine straight games before losing Monday, with Bishop in net for six of them. Boston's offense makes it likely more than a few goals could be conceded en route to another victory.

The Islanders have won six of seven games, while the Penguins have won four of six, making a winner tough to predict. In their only meeting this season, Pittsburgh and Fleury emerged victorious, 5-2, with both teams registering at least 40 shots.

Korpisalo has won four of his last five starts, but Howard has played well recently when given the chance, allowing five goals over two recent starts and a fifty-minute relief appearance. Again, picking a winner here is difficult, but the Blue Jackets are coming off a 6-0 loss to the Flyers on Saturday with Curtis McElhinney in goal, so Detroit is the better team overall.

Pavelec is inexpensive, and has played well in his last two starts, but has won just two of seven games since returning from an injury layoff in February. Nashville has won six of seven games, making it tough to have faith in the Czech netminder.

Nothing to See Here

Name Opponent Value
Tuukka Rask (BOS) at TB 3
Mike Condon (MTL) vs. DAL 3

A 4-1 win over Rask and the Bruins was included in Tampa Bay's recent hot stretch.

With the team's poor play, a Canadiens netminder isn't worth starting, let alone against the explosive Stars.
