Former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Austin Collie announced his retirement from the CFL's BC Lions this week.

Collie, 30, joined the Lions last season after two years out of football. A 2009 fourth-round pick by the Colts, Collie enjoyed success early in his NFL career before being derailed by multiple concussions.

Collie's repeated, frightening head injuries helped spark the increasing focus on concussions that surrounds the game of football today.

Collie has been working with Cognitive FX, a concussion clinic in Utah, according to Jay Drew of The Salt Lake Tribune, and will reportedly continue to be involved in research.
