Report: Jets have interest in Brian Hoyer, could schedule visit this week
The New York Jets have interest in free-agent quarterback Brian Hoyer, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, and are likely to schedule a visit with him as soon as this week.
The Jets reportedly had interest in Hoyer in 2015, but traded for fellow journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick when Hoyer signed with the Houston Texans instead.
The Jets will likely use Hoyer as a lower-priced bargaining chip against Fitzpatrick in negotiations, trying to talk the Harvard man down from his reported $16-million a season asking price.
The Steelers are also expected to be interested in Hoyer, as they desperately need a sturdy backup behind the oft-banged up Ben Roethlisberger.
During his lone, turbulent, season with the Texans, Hoyer played in 11 games, throwing for 2,606 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. His talents were considered superfluous with the signing of Brock Osweiler during free agency.
