Falcons owner questions whether Las Vegas can support NFL team
NFL owners Jerry Jones and Mark Davis have recently voiced their desire to have an NFL franchise in Las Vegas, Nev.
Davis wants his Oakland Raiders to be the first franchise to make the move to Sin City and Jones sees great possibilities for entertainment opportunities in the famed tourist destination. It will take the votes of at least 24 of the 32 NFL owners to make the decision and there's at least one who isn't sold on the idea yet.
"I think whether or not there are enough people in Las Vegas to support a team is a question," Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank told Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com. "I haven't seen the data on that to support it or not support it. It's certainly a dynamic market. It's a growth market. It's got tremendous tourism, a lot of convention business. So it's certainly a consideration. We'll see what the facts bear.
"I want to see all the research on whether (Las Vegas) can support a franchise or not. It's no different than any other city we look at."
When a team could actually show up on the Nevada strip is unknown as potential teams still have a lot of red tape to deal with. Las Vegas mayor Carolyn Goodman is hopeful that either the Raiders or the San Diego Chargers come to her city soon.
