Rob Gronkowski didn't take part in the New England Patriots' first mandatory minicamp session Tuesday due to an unspecified physical ailment that the team's approaching carefully, a source told Mike Reiss of ESPN.
The health issue isn't considered a long-term concern, Reiss adds.
Gronkowski reported to camp and has been working out at the team facility. The tight end has attended the majority of the Patriots' offseason work so far, but amid speculation that he's unhappy with his contract, his absence was more noteworthy.
Head coach Bill Belichick refused to speak specifically about Gronkowki's absence on Tuesday.
"There are a lot of players that were not on the field," he said. "They were doing other things."
