Report: Panthers' Short reports for mandatory minicamp
After missing some of the Carolina Panthers' offseason OTAs while in talks for a new contract extension, defensive tackle Kawann Short has reported for the team's mandatory minicamp this week, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Short will avoid $76,000 in fines by not extending his absence beyond the voluntary portion of the offseason.
The 27-year-old attended some OTAs, but reportedly opted to skip the final week of practices to send a message to the team about the current state of their negotiations.
Short is entering the final year of his rookie contract, which would pay him $1.4 million. He's expected to be looking for a deal that would make him one of the highest-paid players at his position.
He played like one of the top defensive linemen in the league last season, becoming a centerpiece of the outstanding Panthers defense.
