Buccaneers' Louis Murphy: Brings size and experience to third receiver competition

Rotowire10 years ago

Murphy's experience and size could be key in his battle for the slot receiver role in training camp, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Analysis:

The veteran receiver is expected to be ready to practice at the onset of training camp following an ACL tear from October of 2015. He'll jump into the midst of what should be the most hotly-contested position on the Bucs' offense this summer. Murphy has played in the slot at various points in his career, with his most extensive tenure at that spot coming in 2012 with the Panthers. However, his 6-2, 200-pound frame, normally a plus for receivers, may not be ideal for playing inside, and the Bucs could instead opt for the shiftiness that an Adam Humprhies or Donteea Dye would bring. The 29-year-old Murphy will need to hit the ground running come camp, considering the cast of thousands vying for the third receiver job.
