Jones: Foles not an option for Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys learned the value of a good backup quarterback last season, with the team falling apart when starter Tony Romo was twice lost to injury.
So while the Cowboys will do more to make sure they have viable replacements for Romo in the future, one of their free-agent options, Nick Foles, isn't on Dallas' radar.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday that Foles, who was released by the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday, "isn't an option" for his club.
"We like (Kellen) Moore," Jones added.
Moore started two games for the Cowboys toward the end of last season after Matt Cassel and Brandon Weeden both failed to perform when given the starting role.
The 27-year-old Moore showed glimpses of his talent, but struggled with turnovers (six interceptions, one fumble) and accuracy (58.7 competition percentage).
Foles might provide a minimal upgrade for Dallas due to his starting experience, but would likely come with a relatively hefty price tag.
Dallas also drafted Dak Prescott in the fourth round of this year's draft. The young passer is viewed as a long-term project, but could provide a spark if pressed into action for a start or two.
