Rams' Nelson Spruce: Makes impression in preseason opener

Spruce tallied a team-high six catches for 51 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 28-24 preseason victory over the Cowboys.

Analysis:

The undrafted free agent made a solid impression in his pro debut, leading all receivers on the night in both catches and yards. Spruce hauled in a seven-yard touchdown from Sean Mannion in the fourth quarter as well to cap off a 12-play, 80-yard drive, and brings a solid college track record to the NFL despite his lack of draft pedigree. Spruce had a particularly explosive junior season at Colorado (105 receptions for 1200 yards and 12 touchdowns), and given the Rams' lack of a clear-cut wide receiver hierarchy, could work himself onto the final roster with additional performances like Saturday's.
