Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jeff Janis told reporters Monday that his fractured right hand required surgery and will keep him sidelined for at least four-to-six weeks, at which point the injury will be evaluated, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.
With that timeline, Janis will miss the rest of the preseason and is almost certain to not be ready for start of the regular season. The Packers play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 on Sept. 11, just under four weeks from now.
After flashing potential last season, Janis was expected to step up and carve out a substantial role in the Packers' offense in 2016.
However, the wideout has been a major disappointment throughout training camp, and his future with the club may now be in doubt.
The Packers have a host of young wideouts vying for snaps, and his injury could make Janis an afterthought.
