Giants 'not giving up on' Victor Cruz
Hopes that Victor Cruz will someday return to his Pro Bowl form are becoming increasingly uncertain.
The New York Giants wide receiver's numerous comeback attempts have been marred by injury hiccups. He suffered a torn patellar tendon that ended his 2014 season and a calf injury kept him out of the entire 2015 campaign. Now, as he attempts to get in some preseason action, he's facing new ailments. He missed the team's first exhibition game and didn't practice Monday due to a groin strain.
Regardless, the Giants remain optimistic they'll get No. 80 back in uniform.
"We're still not giving up on Cruz," Giants general manager Jerry Reese said Monday on WFAN, according to Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. "Hopefully he'll make it back."
New head coach Ben McAdoo said he has spoken to Cruz about a plan of action.
"Victor and I had a nice conversation (Sunday) afternoon, and we talked about some different things that may be able to help ... I'll let him share that, I'm not gonna share that," McAdoo said.
"I support Victor 100 percent."
Cruz's next chance at live game action will come Saturday when the Giants visit the Buffalo Bills, but he'll likely have to get in significant practice time during the week before he's cleared for contact.
"He had the hiccup, hoping to get him some work on Wednesday," McAdoo said.
