Romo leaves with back tightness, held out as precaution
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo left Thursday's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks after hitting the ground awkwardly in the first quarter.
Romo walked off the field under his own power and was replaced by rookie Dak Prescott. The quarterback immediately clutched his back after being hit by Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright.
Upon receiving treatment from trainers on the sideline, Romo said he felt fine and pleaded with head coach Jason Garrett to re-enter the game but to no avail, the team confirmed. The Cowboys likely exercised caution as Romo suffered two major collarbone injuries last season.
"We don't think it's a serious thing," Garrett said on the broadcast at halftime.
"I was just in shock and had my mind on just, 'C'mon, Tony. Get up,''' Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said via The Associated Press.
''Said a few prayers right there in the middle on the spot. Really just couldn't imagine getting that hand dealt to us. We're pleased that it's in good shape. We obviously don't need to see what Tony can do out there.''
