Indianapolis Colts guard Jack Mewhort is believed to have suffered a torn ACL in Saturday's preseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports, citing a source.
It's a big loss for an offensive line that's struggled to protect franchise quarterback Andrew Luck over the past year.
Mewhort, a second-round pick in 2014, has started 30 games during his brief career and was an important cog on Luck's left side between rookie center Ryan Kelly and left tackle Anthony Castonzo.
Fifth-round rookie Joe Haeg is the odds-on favorite to slide into the starting role, unless the Colts decide to sign a veteran or kick a tackle inside and give rookie Le'Raven Clark a chance at right tackle.
