Bills fire offensive coordinator Greg Roman after 0-2 start

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The Buffalo Bills fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman on Friday on the heels of a 37-31 home loss to the New York Jets that dropped the team to 0-2.

Assistant head coach/running backs coach Anthony Lynn has been promoted as Roman's replacement, the team announced.

It's a shocking move - and one that will surely draw criticism as it was the Bills' defense, which surrendered 493 yards of offense and forced just two punts, that seemed at blame for the team's "Thursday Night Football" loss.

Staring down games against the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots, and the prospect of an 0-4 start, head coach Rex Ryan may have sought a fall guy.

The Bills' offense produced in Week 2, with Tyrod Taylor throwing for 297 yards and three touchdowns despite top wideout Sammy Watkins being limited with a painful foot injury, but scored just seven points in a Week 1 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Through two games (with most of the league having played only one), the Bills rank 29th in offensive yards per game. The Bills' defense ranks 24th in yards per game surrendered.
