Packers' Bakhtiari signs reported 4-year, $51.6M extension
The Green Bay Packers agreed to a contract extension with starting left tackle David Bakhtiari on Tuesday morning, the team announced.
The deal is worth up to $51.67 million over four years, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Those terms would make Bakhtiari the highest-paid left tackle in football annually, as he's slated to make north of $12 million per season. Minnesota Vikings left tackle Matt Kalil currently earns $11.096 million per year.
Entering his fourth NFL season, Bakhtiari has started in every game since being drafted. He has yet to earn a Pro Bowl nod, but has cemented his role as Aaron Rodgers' trusted blindside protector.
The deal comes just over a week after the Packers cut All-Pro guard Josh Sitton when the two sides couldn't agree on an extension. Green Bay reportedly feared the stalemate would lead to Sitton becoming a "locker-room cancer," and he ended up signing a three-year contract with the rival Chicago Bears.
