5 best and 5 worst new 'Color Rush' uniforms
The NFL unveiled the new slate of "Color Rush" uniforms on Tuesday. Here are our picks for the five best and five worst new looks:
Best
5. Browns
These are way better than the new uniforms the Browns unveiled only a season ago, because they don't have an enormous 'CLEVELAND' wordmark on the chest, nor 'BROWNS' running down the leg of the pants. Sadly, we'll have to wait at least a year until we see these, as the Browns don't plan to wear them in 2016.
4. Seahawks
These jerseys are so bright they might make you squint, but this version of the Seahawks' once-maligned electric-green alternates works better than its predecessor because the rest of the uniform design is ultra-modern. It just works.
3. Broncos
The best thing about these is the helmet, which sees the return of the "D" logo from the Orange Crush era. They would look better with white pants, but that's apparently not allowed with "Color Rush" uniforms.
2. Chargers
These aren't "fauxbacks" per se, as the Chargers once wore something quite similar to them, but they aren't a strict throwback, either. What they are is a reminder that not all blue has to be navy blue, and that football uniforms can be colorful and fun while still maintaining aesthetic balance.
1. Bengals
Yes, the "Color" part of "Color Rush" is lacking here, but this Siberian tiger-inspired Bengals set is so sexy that it has to top our list. If only the NFL would ditch its helmet rule to let the Bengals go full whiteout.
Bonus points for unveiling these next to an actual white tiger:
Worst
5. Packers
The Packers' uniforms, with yellow lids and pants, are iconic. They are one of the few teams in all of sports that should never deviate from that look, aside from the occasional (historically accurate) throwback. Let's hope cooler heads prevail and these entirely unnecessary white pants are shelved.
4. Colts
These are just the Colts' regular uniforms, but with blue pants. To be fair, it's not like they had another color in their scheme to choose from.
3. Lions
The Lions introduced black alternate jerseys about a decade ago, and many fans hated them - in part because they became synonymous with the perpetual losing of the Matt Millen era - so the team ditched them. It's not clear why the team thinks they will work this time around. An all-silver look might have been worth trying instead.
2. Every team that's just keeping last year's uniform
Several teams, including the Titans and Jaguars, opted not to unveil a new "Color Rush" set and will instead wear the same special uniforms they wore last year. Others, including the Bears and Chiefs, are just going to wear the alternate uniforms they have worn in years past. Not very creative.
1. Redskins
These look like if Ronald McDonald was an NFL player. The best thing about them is that they won't be worn this year. Let's hope that extends into future seasons.
