Watch: Sherman makes emotional statement about race relations

In his media availability on Wednesday, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman chose not to answer questions from reporters because he felt a statement needed to be made.

With more videos surfacing of innocent African-American men being shot to death by police recently, Sherman felt that something more than a gesture during the national anthem needed to be done.

"You have players that are trying to take a stand and trying to be aware of social issues and trying to make a stand to increase people's awareness, put a spotlight on it and they are being ignored," said Sherman. "Whether they're taking a knee or locking arms, they're trying to bring people together and unite them for a cause.... I think people are still missing the point."
