Report: Norman fined over $48K for unnecessary roughness vs. Giants
Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman has been fined $48,620 for unnecessary roughness against the New York Giants, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
The penalty stems from a hard hit Norman laid on rookie receiver Sterling Shepard on an intermediate passing route, according to NFL.com's Nick Shook. Shepard was unharmed on the play, which was flagged by the on-field officials.
Norman was flagged twice in last season's matchup with the Giants, which may have contributed to the seemingly high fine for Sunday's hit.
He received no discipline for an early play in which he unnecessarily lifted rival and Giants receiver Odell Beckham in the air.
Both Norman and Beckham were given extra warning prior to the game that they would be on a short leash from the officials after their explosive meeting last December.
