The New York Jets' lead over the Miami Dolphins late in the fourth quarter was a brief as a lead can be.
On the kickoff after Jets quarertback Ryan Fitzpatrick connected with receiver Jalin Marshall for an 18-yard score, Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake left the Jets in his wake on a 96-yard touchdown return, giving Miami the win 27-23.
With Ryan Tannehill tallying just 149 passing yards, the Dolphins leaned on running back Jay Ajayi to carry the offense, as he totaled 140 total yards and a touchdown. Pass-rusher Cameron Wake also deserved plenty of credit for the victory, registering two sacks and two forced fumbles.
Fitzpatrick had a rough outing, with two interceptions and two fumbles while failing to reach 200 passing yards. The veteran quarterback left the game briefly with a knee injury and was replaced by Bryce Petty, who completed his first two NFL passes.
The Jets sit at the bottom of the AFC East with a 3-6 record, while the Dolphins now sit at 4-4.
