San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly was away from the team prior to Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears because of the death of his father.
Kelly confirmed after the game that his father, Paul Kelly, died Friday night. Kelly traveled to New Hampshire after learning the news, then returned to Chicago to coach Sunday's contest.
"My mom wanted me to coach," Kelly told CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
Kelly said he plans to travel back to New Hampshire to be with his family.
