Berry cried before, while, after leading Chiefs to victory
Atlanta native Eric Berry made a very emotional return home in Sunday's game against the Falcons.
The Kansas City Chiefs safety had yet to play a pro game in his hometown, and the occasion was made all the greater having returned to familiar confines to battle lymphoma cancer two years ago.
Berry admitted he "shed a few tears before the game, I shed a few during the game, and I shed a few after," according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.
Despite those emotions, the All-Pro played just like one, leading the Chiefs to victory with 37-yard interception return for a touchdown and game-winning interception return on a two-point convert attempt that proved to be the difference in Kansas City's 29-28 victory.
"I think I held it together pretty good. There were a lot of emotions so I just tried to contain them and let it show through my play," Berry said.
"The last time I came home during the season, it was to get chemotherapy and then this time it was actually to play the game. I was just thankful for the opportunity. I take pride in a lot of things people take for granted so when opportunities come my way I cherish them and try to make the most of them."
