Report: Vikings' Smith could miss rest of year with high ankle sprain
Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith will miss Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a high ankle sprain, and could miss the remainder of the year, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Smith is reportedly fighting through a Grade 3 sprain and may eventually require surgery.
The Pro Bowler originally sustained the injury during a Nov. 20 win against the Arizona Cardinals, but further aggravated the injury in the team's next two games. After last Thursday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Smith exited the locker room on crutches.
Smith is in the midst of another strong season, recording 84 tackles, two interceptions, and two pass deflections in 12 games.
It would be a devastating loss for the Vikings' defense if Smith missed an extended period of time, serving as the anchor of their secondary.
