Lynch's daughter cried when he took GM job because '49ers are horrible'

Former NFL safety John Lynch didn't necessarily receive full support from his family when he decided to accept the San Francisco 49ers' general manager job.

Speaking to NFL Network's Michael Silver after Thursday's introductory press conference, Lynch told the story of one family member who wasn't pleased about his new gig.

"I think the toughest one - I haven't told this yet to the media - all my kids took it really well," Lynch said, according to 49erswebzone.com. "They were shocked but they took it really well. My 9-year-old started bawlin' and she's not that girl. She's the one that was always happy, and she was crying, and I said, 'What's wrong Leah? Is there some nervous anxiety about moving?' And she said, 'No daddy,' and she was sobbing. And I said, 'What's wrong?' And she said, 'The 49ers are horrible.'

"So I said, 'Well, I think that's why they hired your daddy,'" he added.

The 49ers did indeed hire Lynch, an outside-the-box addition with no front-office experience, in an attempt to dig themselves out of a big hole. The team won just two games in 2016, earning the second overall pick in the draft, and only five the season prior.

By most accounts, he has surrounded himself with an experienced front-office staff that can help get him up to speed on all aspects of being a general manager. And he's adding the NFL's best offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan, as his head coach.

With any luck, it won't be long before Lynch's young daughter can proudly say her father works for a team that isn't horrible.
