Chris Long announced Wednesday on Instagram that he won't re-sign with the Patriots after spending one season in New England.
The defensive end said his decision to test free agency is not about money, rather he wants a more significant role or more chances to rush the passer than what he had with the Patriots.
"I'm thankful for my role this year, but as a competitor, I'm itching to do what I do best," Long wrote.
The 31-year-old earned the first Super Bowl title of his career with New England, but produced his lowest sack output for a full 16-game season since his rookie year in 2008.
With few premier pass-rushers on the market, Long may be in demand if his price isn't too steep.
